Cable Trays
Cable trays are the mechanical support system that provides rigid protection for electrical cables raceways, and insulated conductors used for electric power distribution, control, signal instrumentation, and communication. Metal cable trays are made of galvanized steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
The Cable trays can support all types of electrical wiring systems as:
- Power distribution cables
- Telecommunication cables
- High voltage power cable
- Control cables
- Fiber optic cables
A cable tray system is also called a support system as it helps to support and protects both power and signal cables by accelerating the upgrading, enlarging, reconfiguring, or relocating of electrical big networks. They are the perfect solution for running large quantities of power or data cables overhead and on underground floors. Cable trays come in all shapes and sizes according to our needs with the required accessories.
The selection of cable tray depends upon the number of cables, size, spacing, and weight of cable in the tray.
Different Types of Cable Trays
- Ladder-type
- Perforated type
- Wire mesh type
- Channel type
Ladder Type Cable Tray: The ladder Cable tray has two side fences connected by rungs. This type of cable tray is effective because the ladder rungs give you easy accessibility to the cables, from the top or bottom. A cable ladder system comprises a range of straight lengths as well as differently shaped fittings designed to facilitate changing cabling directions or levels easily, without the need to modify any components. Ladders are generally considered to be the strongest products that are available to support cables, offering high load capabilities over long spans.
Perforated Type Cable Tray: This type of cable tray consists of a ventilated bottom with side rails, this cable tray provides more support to cables than ladder-type trays.
Classic Perforated cable trays are used for instrumentation, Control as well as Power Cables. Perforated Cable Trays provide excellent ventilation, enhance the life of cables and it can be fixed to any structure.
Wire Mesh Type Cable Tray: This type of tray, also called basket cable tray and accessories, is a kind of cable tray made of stainless-steel wires by welding wires together, forming a basket-like mesh.
Cable Trays are mainly used for low voltage, telecommunication, and fiber optic cables supported on short spans.
Channel Cable tray: A channel cable tray is a form of an absolutely enclosed cable tray crafted from stainless steel, carbon steel, FRP, and aluminum alloy.
A channel cable tray is nothing more than a metal tray that can be used for very small cable installations.
Material
- Metallic (Aluminum, steel, Stainless steel)
- Non-metallic (Fiberglass)
Advantages
- Less expensive– one major advantage of the cable trays that is cost a lot less than the other methods of protecting wiring on the production floor.
- Maintenance- Cables are instantly visible for maintenance checks, and changing cables is easy because cables can enter or exit the tray at any point in the system.
- Safety – Regular housekeeping is important for safety, as cable trays are often installed in hard-to-reach places.
