NEPLAN – Power System Analysis
- NEPLAN 360 is the first fully browser based power system analysis tool on the market and offers therefore all advantages of cloud computing.
- The software does not need to be installed on a specific desktop computer or notebook, but is accessible everywhere through Internet. As a result new licensing models are available for the users.
The software can be used on the Internet in the cloud or in a customer’s Intranet, depending on their hosting place. As a result the network projects are stored in a:
- Multi-User SQL-Database in the Cloud (Internet)
- Multi-User SQL-Database in Customer’s Intranet
- XML File locally
The software includes user administration and can assign different roles to the users.
The calculation modules have the same characteristics as the ones in the desktop version of NEPLAN and can handle symmetrical and unsymmetrical AC and DC networks in the same manner. The following calculation modules now are available:
NEPLAN | Electricity
NEPLAN Electricity is a software tool to analyse, plan, optimize and simulate networks. The user-friendly graphical interface allows the user to perform study cases very efficiently. The customizable software has a modular concept and covers all electrical aspects in transmission, distribution, generation / industrial networks. It suits best for Renewable energy system and SmartGrid application because all necessary models and simulation methods are integrated with a very high accuracy and performance. Besides steady state calculations, power quality and optimization aspects and protection design, the NEPLAN simulator allows to model wind and solar power plants with their controls for dynamic simulations (RMS/EMT) in detail and integrates also Matlab/Simulink models. The software is available in different technologies: as desktop application, in the web browser as internet solution on the cloud or as intranet solution and as a web service (see box “technologies” below) The common database and the unique API simplify the integration of NEPLAN in external applications.

NEPLAN Gas, NEPLAN Water and NEPLAN Heating is a software tool to analyze, plan, optimize and simulate networks. The user-friendly graphical interface allows the user to perform study cases very efficiently. The customizable software has a modular concept and covers all aspects relevant and useful for the calculation of Gas, Water and Heating networks. NEPLAN is the only tool on the market that allows the user to simulate electricity, gas, water and heating networks simultaneously. This feature enables the User to model any interaction between those networks. NEPLAN | Grounding, Electromagnetic Fields, Interference and Lightning Analysis
XGSLab (Over and Under Ground System Laboratory) is one of the most powerful software packages for grounding system analysis, electromagnetic fields, interference and lightning analysis and the only software on the market that takes into account both EN and IEEE Standards. XGSLab includes the modules: 1. GSA (GROUNDING SYSTEM ANALYSIS) for regular application (applicable in most practical cases). 2. GSA_FD (GROUNDING SYSTEM ANALYSIS in the FREQUENCY DOMAIN) for electromagnetic fields and interference evaluations for overhead and underground systems and for fault current distribution calculations. 3. XGSA_FD (OVER AND UNDER GROUND SYSTEM ANALYSIS in the FREQUENCY DOMAIN) for electromagnetic fields and interference evaluations for overhead and underground systems and for lightning effects and fault current distribution calculations. 4. XGSA_TD(OVER AND UNDERGROUND SYSTEM ANALYSIS in the TIME DOMAIN) for general applications with overhead and underground systems. All modules are integrated in an “all in one” package and based on a hybrid calculation method (or “PEEC” method) which considers transmission line, circuit and electromagnetic theory combined into a single calculation model. Hybrid methods join the strong points of the other methods and are well suited for engineering purposes because they allow the analysis of complex scenarios including external parameters such as voltages, currents and impedances. For these reasons, XGSLab can be considered a real laboratory.
NEPLAN | NEPLAN Research
The NEPLAN Research Toolbox has been specially designed for researchers and developers which need to develop new power system models (e.g. control strategies) and new algorithms (e.g. SmartGrid applications). The Toolbox includes besides many NEPLAN calculation and simulation modules: The NPL NEPLAN Programming Library, which is a C/C++ API that allows to access NEPLAN data and calculation algorithms includes amongst others the following functions: execute any NEPLAN calculation engine read/write access to all variables of all components add / change /delete components and graphical data retrieve the results from the NEPLAN analysis An easy to use C/C++ API that allows developing user defined models for load flow calculations A function block drawing editor, which allows to develop user defined models for controllers and primary components with function blocks A Matlab interface, which allows developing dynamic user defined models (controllers and primary components). The models may also be developed through the NEPLAN block diagram editor A Simulink interface, that allows to execute simultaneously the NEPLAN dynamic simulator and the Simulink simulator. That means that the controllers and/or primary components developed in Simulink may be directly connected to a NEPLAN user defined model. When running the dynamic simulation in NEPLAN, NEPLAN connects automatically to Matlab and executes the Simulink® model in Matlab. The rest of the network model will still be calculated in NEPLAN.
